The rumor mills can finally rest for a while: Apple announced the latest iteration iPad on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 in San Francisco. The new system already has foiled most pundits expectations by being simply dubbed the “iPad”, rather than the “iPad 3″. While Apples competitors have lower cost products with more features, Apple remains the market leader and has managed to carve out a new niche of loyal customers for whom the new iPad will prove to be a compelling upgrade.
This new iPad is identical in form factor to the iPad 2, but it sports an A5X dual-core processor with quad-core graphics processor and 1 GB RAM driving Apples high-definition Retina display. It also includes a 5-megapixel camera capable of recording 1080p HD video. One of the most exciting features is the optional 4G LTE wireless (from AT&T and Verizon) in addition to the standard WiFi.
The new iPad will be at retailers on March 16, 2012, and pricing starts at $499 for the 16 GB model with WiFi, and goes up to $829.00 for the 64 GB with WiFi + 4G. There is even a choice of colors at no additional charge: black or white.
