NBAA Says Government Shutdown Won’t Stop Business Aviation

According to an article posted today by the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA), air traffic controllers, weather forecasters and other essential FAA employees will continue to work in case of a government shutdown at the end of this week.

“People who control air traffic, process flight plans and are involved in weather decision-making…all those are part of what’s considered the air traffic control management function. All of that should proceed as normal,”said NBAA Senior Vice President for Operations and Administration Steve Brown, who was FAA Associate Manager for Air Traffice Services from 1998 until 2004.

According to the NBAA article, aircraft operators seeking RVSM approval or other operational change will likely have to wait until the end of a governement shutdown before an inspector is available to give that approval, but normal aircraft operations should continue without interruption.
